All students who have Portuguese nationality are considered National Students, and also:

- nationals of a member state of the European Union (these students will be able to take advantage of the National Access Competition for students with foreign qualifications);

- family members of Portuguese or nationals of a member state of the European Union, regardless of their nationality;

- those who, not being citizenzs of a member state of the European Union, have legally resided in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on January 1st of the year in which they intend to enter higher education, as well as children who reside with them , and the length of residence for study is not relevant for this purpose (these students will be able to take advantage of the National Access Competition for students with foreign qualifications);

- those who require entry into higher education through special regimes.
National Students can apply for the various Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTeSP), Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate study cycles and Postgraduate courses offered by UPB.
