CIDESD – Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences and Human Development is a technically and scientifically multidisciplinary inter-institutional applied research unit based at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Vila Real) and is affiliated to the European College of Sports Sciences.
Created in 2007, this center is the result of the networking, by consortium agreement, of six previous research units from the UPB, the Rio Maior School of Sports Sciences – Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, the University of Beira Interior, the University Institute of Maia, the University of Madeira and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. It is currently a consortium agreement of 10 institutions, made up of three research communities: CreativeLab, GERON and STRONG.
CIDESD’s mission is to help develop human resources capable of carrying out autonomous interventions in the fields of sports science, health and human development. This mission is particularly integrated into objective 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals described in the United Nations 2030 agenda: to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages.
