Requests for accreditation of certified training and professional experience must be made online, on the UPB accreditation portal.
What is accreditation of professional experience?
This is the process of awarding ECTS credits in scientific areas and curricular units of the study plans of courses awarded by the UPB Schools, for the purposes of further studies, as a result of (1) learning or acquiring competencies arising from professional experience of an appropriate level and compatible with the degree in question and (2) training not covered by the concept of certified training, of an appropriate level and compatible with the degree in question.
What is accreditation of certified training?
This is the process of awarding ECTS credits in scientific areas and curricular units in the study plans of courses offered by UPB schools, as a result of the training referred to in the previous point, for the purposes of further studies.
What is certified training?
Certified training is that which can be confirmed by an official certificate issued by national or foreign Higher Education Centres, or other duly recognised institutions, provided that the training is of a higher or post-secondary level, including subjects, curricular units and other modules, with an assigned classification, belonging to the study plans of national or foreign higher education courses, and technological specialisation courses, among others recognised by the Technical-Scientific Councils of the Schools integrated in the UPB.
What can be accredited in the syllabus of a course?
The maximum limits for accreditation, for the purposes of pursuing studies to obtain an academic degree or diploma, are set by the provisions of article 45 of Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of 24 March, with subsequent amendments, so the UPB:
a) accredits training completed as part of other higher education courses leading to a degree in national or foreign higher education institutions, both that obtained within the framework of the organisation resulting from the Bologna Process and that obtained previously;
b) accredits training undertaken within the scope of higher professional technical courses up to a limit of 50 per cent of the total credits of the study cycle;
c) accredits the curricular units successfully completed under the terms of article 46 – A, up to a limit of 50 per cent of the total credits of the study cycle;
d) accredits training undertaken as part of non-academic degree courses taught in national or foreign higher education institutions, up to a limit of 50 per cent of the total credits of the study cycle;
e) accredits the training carried out within the scope of technological specialisation courses up to a limit of one third of the total credits of the study cycle;
f) accredits other training not covered by the previous paragraphs, up to a limit of one third of the total credits of the study cycle;
g) accredits professional experience up to a limit of 50 per cent of the total credits of higher professional technical courses in situations where the student has more than five years of duly proven professional experience;
h) accredits duly proven professional experience, up to a limit of one third of the total credits of the study cycle, without prejudice to the provisions of the previous paragraph.
The total credits awarded under points d) to h) may not exceed two thirds of the total credits of the study cycle.
Which courses/cycles of study can be accredited?
In all of UPB’s Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTeSP), Bachelor’s and Master’s study cycles.
Who can request accreditation?
1. Students enrolled in Higher Professional Technical Courses (CTeSP).
2.Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree course, regardless of the entry method.
For students in the cycle of studies leading to a bachelor’s degree, in mobility between national higher education establishments, from the same or different subsystems, as well as between national and foreign higher education establishments, accreditation is ensured within the scope of the special competitions for holders of academic degrees and within the scope of the reentry regimes and change of institution/course.
3. Students enrolled in master’s degree courses.
What is accreditation for?
Accreditation makes it possible to simplify student mobility based on the principle of mutual recognition of the value of the training undertaken and the skills acquired and on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), by crediting the training undertaken previously in the course/cycle of studies in which the student is enrolled.
Accreditation also makes it possible to recognize skills acquired outside the formal education system through professional training and experience, crediting them to the course/cycle of studies in which the student is enrolled.
By recognizing the skills acquired and the training completed previously, accreditation allows students to progress or complete their course/cycle of studies more quickly by exempting them from taking a number of course units.
What is accreditation?
Accreditation replaces the outdated system of equivalences, crediting training undertaken as part of other higher education cycles in national or foreign higher education establishments, as well as introducing the possibility of crediting professional experience and post-secondary training. In this way, accreditation makes it possible for institutions to recognise post-secondary training and carry out a process of identifying, evaluating and recognising knowledge obtained outside the formal education system, by awarding credits, for the purposes of progression in the course or cycle of studies in which the student is enrolled.
