Units_UNIAG

UNIAG – Applied Research Unit in Management, created in 2014, is made up of researchers from four Higher Education Institutions located in the northern region of Portugal: UPB, the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave (IPCA), the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP) and the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC). UNIAG’s mission is to promote and develop applied scientific research, namely in the areas of tourism, management, regional development, social and business sustainability, entrepreneurship, competitiveness, corporate governance and information and communication technologies, in a transversal and multidisciplinary context, with the aim of establishing a strong link between theory and practice, as well as transferring knowledge to society. UNIAG’s strategy is based on the following 2 pillars: Excellence in research: developing and improving research in the areas of management and social sciences with tourism, stimulating and encouraging international scientific publication (authorship/coauthorship) in impact journals; Engaging with society: using research capacity to respond to business needs, developing solutions and sharing academic knowledge with civil society. Units_CIEB

CIEB – Center for Research in Basic Education is a research unit applied to the specificities of basic education, understood as a fundamental basis for learning and for the development of societies. The CIEB focuses on a holistic vision of education that articulates the curriculum, the initial and ongoing training of teachers and educators, collaborative work with contexts, pedagogy and specific didactics, and applied research, with the aim of promoting innovation and the quality of students’ learning and the development of professionals. The mission that stems from this vision of education is the development of pedagogical intervention projects, focused on cooperative support for the learning of students and their families, the promotion of their educational and social success through training and collaborative work with professionals and the construction and development of a systematized set of technical-scientific knowledge that can be used as a reference and fundamental basis in the design, application and evaluation of intervention projects/programs and educational change. Among other things, CIEB’s main objectives are:
    • to identify opportunities for pedagogical innovation in student learning and teacher training in basic education;
    • designing, monitoring and evaluating models and scenarios of organizational and pedagogical innovation/change for the development of learning environments;
    • student learning in basic education, evaluating its social and academic impact

Units_cedri

CeDRI – Research Centre in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics is an interdisciplinary applied research unit that brings together researchers in the fields of electronics, computer science and mathematics. CeDRI’s research activities aim to develop scientific knowledge and applications in technological systems with a high impact on industry, fostering the competitiveness of the socio-economic system, with special attention to regions with low population and economic density, characterized by small and medium-sized enterprises where their competitiveness is strongly affected by the difficulties of access to industrial innovation. CeDRI’s mission is to contribute to the development, application and transfer of scientific knowledge related to robotics, intelligent systems and information and communication technologies, within the scope of digitalization and automation of industrial systems, strengthening the scientific and technological system. CeDRI has six laboratory facilities: the Innovation Laboratory, the Advanced Computing Laboratory, the Computer Graphics and Virtual Environments Laboratory, the Electrotechnical Engineering Laboratory, the Communications Infrastructure Laboratory and the Electromechanical Systems Laboratory. Units_CIMO

CIMO – Mountain Research Center is a multidisciplinary research unit focused on Mediterranean mountain issues, based at UPB and with a pole at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. CIMO is part of the national research network coordinated by FCT. The Center follows an interdisciplinary approach based on an applied research strategy that covers issues and knowledge ranging from nature (raw materials, natural resources, biodiversity, agriculture and forest management) to products (food or bio-based materials). CIMO aims to promote research in Mediterranean mountain areas, in line with international best practices, boosting scientific observation and experimental development for the conservation, exploitation and scientific valorization of biodiversity, natural resources, agricultural and forestry systems and mountain products. It also aims to develop sustainable land use systems, improving endogenous research skills, and linking research and stakeholders that foster sustainable development in mountain areas. The Center currently has 77 integrated doctorate members, specialists in various areas of the natural, social and engineering sciences who focus their research on promoting sustainable development through the use of endogenous resources and the creation of value chains. This diversity of experience and knowledge allows it to be fully multidisciplinary, given the subject of its main activity: complex physical-biological-human mountain systems. Language Centre

The CLESEB – Language Centre of the Polytechnic University of Bragança has the mission of offering language courses aimed at enhancing learning for both UPB students and the general community.

Through CLESEB, UPB students can enrol in language courses (English, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese) according to their proficiency level, preparing them for academic life and mobility opportunities. For UPB students who have been awarded a Social Welfare scholarship, participation in these mobility courses is free of charge. The courses run on a semester basis, with registrations taking place in September and February.

In addition to language courses, CLESEB offers various services in the field of linguistic consultancy, being responsible for translating certificates of completion for study cycles at UPB. Furthermore, it provides support to the academic community and civil society through the translation of various types of documents.

Currently, CLESEB is an authorized Examination Centre for conducting and certifying Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) exams. Each exam corresponds to a certificate or diploma that is internationally recognized according to the standards of ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe). The UPB Language Centre administers these exams in partnership with the Centre for Evaluation of Portuguese as a Foreign Language, Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon (CAPLE).
