Research

The institutional strategy for the policy of promoting scientific, technological and artistic activity is based on two structural axes: the creation of a vibrant research & innovation ecosystem and the promotion of research careers. UPB’s research and innovation ecosystem is made up of research and development units accredited and funded by FCT, associated laboratories, collaborative laboratories, research groups and the science and technology park (where UPB’s incubator is located). Student participation in scientific activities, technological development and artistic production is also an established practice. UPB regularly updates its training offer with a view to professional orientation. Students carry out innovation activities, research initiation and co-creation projects involving multidisciplinary teams of students, teachers, researchers, companies and organizations.

Alumni

Today, UPB is an institution with an international dimension and recognized merit, a result also achieved by the success of its graduates.

Familiar with UPB, the Alumni are the main promoters and ambassadors of the spirit of academia and of the knowledge transmitted over the four decades of its existence and, equally, fundamental elements of the academic and scientific recognition achieved.

The creation of the Alumni.UPB network is intended to renew and elevate the spirit of academia through personal relationships and to serve as an engine for business networking. Both through the network’s digital platforms and through face-to-face meetings, the aim is to create successful partnerships and improve experiences with professionals who share a common history.

If you are an UPB Alumnus/Alumna and would like to keep in touch with this worldwide network, join using the form or contact alumni@ipb.pt.

Members of the Alumni.UPB network have access to a range of benefits and services provided by UPB and partner institutions.These include access to libraries and food services, discounts on the use of facilities and the training on offer, privileged access to internship grants and other agreements with external organizations.

Student Associations_1

Student associations are structures that represent students, whether within the higher education institution itself and/or its organic units, or in inter-university relations, or in all situations involving relations with the economic, social and political environment in which they operate. Student associations organize various academic, cultural and integration activities for new students, which help to promote academic spirit and the personal and civic development of their students. The UPB Academic Association is organized into Student Associations in each of the schools that are part of the UPB. Each school also has Student Groups organized by course/cycle of studies. UPB actively supports and collaborates with the various UPB Student Groups/Student Associations/Academic Association in promoting UPB’s values, strengthening and promoting the UPB Community and establishing relationships of proximity, solidarity and inclusion.

Mentoring Academy

The Mentoring Academy is a project to integrate and promote academic and personal success at UPB, coordinated by a working group appointed for this special purpose and which has the following goals:
    • promoting the adaptation of students to higher education and, in particular, to the UPB;
    • contribute to the student’s socio-academic inclusion;
    • guiding them towards the most appropriate choices, identifying the constraints and difficulties that could jeopardize academic success and facilitating student integration;
    • recognize and counteract situations of academic failure as early as possible in the academic process;
    • contribute to promoting the quality of teaching and academic development;
    • increase the two-way flow of information between academia and students;
    • contribute to equal opportunities for students;
    • contribute to promoting the quality of teaching and academic development;
    • promote pedagogical training for teachers and the sharing of good practices.
The Mentoring Academy program, coordinated by the School of Technology and Management, in conjunction with the other schools and UPB’s research centers and units, was designed and implemented to strengthen students’ integration and academic and personal success. It is divided into three strands: mentoring (socio-academic integration), tutoring (pedagogical support) and pedagogical training (aimed at teachers in order to increase students’ academic success). It is a plural academy and open to the entire UPB community: students, teachers (active or not), researchers, non-teaching staff and external members. Find out more in mentoringacademy.ipb.pt
