What is the UPB International Mobility Programme?

After consolidating its participation in the Erasmus Programme, which enables student mobility in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in European Union countries, UPB has extended its network of partnerships to Portuguese-speaking countries and countries outside the EU. As a result, the International Mobility Programme allows students to spend a period of mobility at HEIs in Portuguese-speaking and non-Portuguese-speaking countries with which UPB has established collaboration agreements.

Applications for international mobility are made online, by the deadlines set and published annually by the International Relations Office (GRI). International student mobility is available for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses and for attending curricular units, undertaking curricular and professional internships and carrying out co-supervised research work, including Master’s dissertations and Doctorate theses. As part of the collaboration protocols, UPB and the partner HEIs provide mobility flows and grants for studies and internships, in accordance with their own funding. These flows and grants can also be used to carry out master’s dissertations and doctorate theses under a co-supervision regime.

International Mobility

After consolidating its participation in the Erasmus+ Programme, which allows students, teachers and non-teaching staff to move to HEIs in European Union countries, UPB has extended its network of partnerships to Portuguese-speaking countries and countries outside the European Union. Thus, the International Mobility programme allows students to spend a period of mobility at HEIs in Portuguese-speaking and non-Portuguese-speaking countries with which UPB has established collaboration protocols. The collaboration protocols also provide for the development of joint research projects and the mobility of teachers and researchers between institutions.

Sustainability

UPB’s Strategic Plan includes, in its chapter on strategic orientation, ‘Innovating for Sustainability’ and ‘Sustainable Campus’ as two of the priorities identified for the quadrennium.  The development of the UPB and the fulfilment of its mission are only possible if its actions are complemented by a firm commitment to environmental and social responsibilities, integrating respect for human beings, the environment and society’s values and ethical principles as a concern in all decisions and activities. This objective involves developing concrete solutions to social and environmental challenges, including the rational use of material and energy resources. With regard to material resources, UPB has intensified its commitment to digital transformation, contributing to the dematerialisation of processes and reducing the use of paper. As for energy resources, internal measures have been implemented to promote the energy and environmental transition, contributing to carbon neutrality, energy efficiency and the circular use of resources. Assuming its commitments to sustainability, UPB participates in the Resource Efficiency in Public Administration Programme – ECO.AP 2030 (ecoap.pt) and, understanding that raising awareness among the academic community/UPB community is fundamental, regularly publishes its thematic newsletters.

Erasmus Charter and Erasmus Policy

The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (CEES/ECHE) guarantees the quality of European and international mobility and cooperation activities that HEIs can carry out under the Erasmus+ Program. It involves subscribing to a set of fundamental principles and the public assumption of an institutional internationalization strategy (Erasmus Policy Statement).

The award of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education is a requirement for all HEIs located in member states and third countries associated with the Erasmus+ Programme, which wish to apply for and participate in individual mobility activities for learning purposes and/or cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices within the framework of the Program.

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)

As part of the new ERASMUS+ programme period (2021-2027), UPB and its European partners are offering Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP).

BIPs are short, intensive training programmes, including online cooperation, combining physical mobility with a virtual part, and promoting and using innovative ways of learning and teaching, research-based and challenge-based learning. The virtual part will allow experts from all partners to participate in the teaching/training. Short-term physical mobility will allow teachers and participants to co-operate face-to-face.

UPB offers BIPs to support an important extension and flexibility of ERASMUS mobility. The BIP broadens the scope of mobility by receiving participants who stay at their home institution (except during short-term physical mobility at UPB) and allows UPB students to participate (internationalisation at home).

Students can maintain their study plan at their home institution and include BIP training as a parallel activity. Short-term physical mobility will constitute the only period outside the home institution. Students will credit the BIP in their study plans.

Support for physical mobility: individual support for students and teachers for physical mobility must be provided by the sending organisation, which can use its own regular ERASMUS funds for mobility. Short-term student mobility grants are now permitted for BIP under the new ERASMUS+ programme.

Below are the available Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP).

Students can only apply for one BIP per semester!
