Who is it for?

The following may apply to change institution/course or reentry an UPB course: a) Students who have been registered and enrolled in another institution/course and have not completed it; b) Students who have taken the national secondary school exams corresponding to the entrance exams set for that course, for that year, under the general access regime, in any academic year; c)Students who have obtained the minimum classification required by the higher education institution for that year, under the general access regime. The procedure for changing institution/course also applies to students who have been enrolled and registered at a foreign higher education institution in a cycle of studies defined as higher education by the legislation of the country in question, and have not completed it. Students who have been enrolled and registered for the same or a previous course at UPB may apply to reenter a course at UPB.

What are the change of institution/course and reentry regimes?

The change of institution/course and reentry regimes are aimed at students who have been enrolled in a national or foreign higher education establishment and wish to enter UPB’s Bachelor’s degree programmes. The UPB ensures student mobility between national and foreign higher education establishments, based on the principle of mutual recognition of the value of the training undertaken and the skills acquired, through the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). It is understood as:
    • Change of institution/course – the act by which a student enrols and/or registers in an institution/course different from the one(s) in which, in previous academic years, he/she registered, which may take place with or without interruption of enrollment and registration in a higher education institution.
    • Reentry – the act by which a student, after interrupting their studies at a higher education institution/course, enrolls at the same institution and enrolls in the same or a successor course.

Knowledge and skills assessment tests

Each HEI or network of HEIs organises the tests that give access to their study cycles. The Polytechnic Institutes of the North (Bragança Polytechnic University, Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, Polytechnic Institute of Porto and Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo) and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro have set up the Rede Norte to organise the theoretical or practical tests that give access to their Bachelor’s or Integrated Master’s study cycles. Registration for the Rede Norte tests is carried out on the respective portal, where the timetable and information on the benchmarks for the knowledge and skills assessment tests are available. The results of the tests are also published on the Rede Norte portal.

How can my professional experience be useful for the course I intend to study?

The UPB recognizes, through the attribution of credits in its courses/study cycles, the professional experience and training of those admitted to it through the exams. If you are placed through the special competition for students who have passed the specially designed tests to evaluate the Over 23 year Olds’ capacity to attend higher education, you must submit requests for accreditation of certified training and professional experience at the time of enrolment.

I want to take exams to evaluate my capacity to attend more than one UPB course. How can I do this?

You must apply for each course/cycle of study you want. However, there will be exams that are considered equivalent and to which the following ranking rules apply. The legislation establishes that passing the exams for access to higher education is effective when applying for admission to the institution/course pair for which they were taken. However, it also allows the exams to be used to apply for enrolment in more than one course/cycle of study at the same higher education establishment. As such, the Bragança Polytechnic University has established that the selection rules will be as follows (article 11 of the Regulations for the Special Competitions for Access and Entry to the Cycle of Studies leading to the degree of Bachelors, available in the Academic Regulations menu): a) Candidates who pass the Bragança Polytechnic University exams will be ranked first according to their final classification, rounded to the nearest hundredth. In the event of a tie, candidates will be ranked by curriculum evaluation; b) If, after the procedure described in the previous paragraph, there are still vacancies in a given course at the Bragança Polytechnic University, the candidates from the UPB or another higher education establishment who have passed the exams considered to be equivalent will be ranked second, according to the final classification obtained in those exams, on a scale of 0-20 points. In the event of a tie, candidates will be ranked by curriculum evaluation; c) Each year, the Technical-Scientific Councils of the UPB Schools define which exams taken at the UPB are considered equivalent for the purposes of the ranking provided for in point b); d) Assessing the equivalence of exams taken at another higher education establishment is the responsibility of the Technical-Scientific Councils of the UPB Schools; e) The tie-breaker provided for in points a) and b) is the responsibility of the Technical-Scientific Councils of the UPB Schools.
