Aqua Summer School

The Aqua Summer School takes place as part of the Blue Design Alliance, which focuses on valuing water, ocean and river resources and social and environmental sustainability, associated with health and well-being, through design. It aims to be a privileged space for secondary school students to learn and disseminate knowledge about water. At the same time, it develops skills of autonomy, creativity and team spirit, fostered through pedagogical, recreational and cultural practices. The Aqua Summer School takes place in the city of Chaves, known for its thermal water, which allows young people to discover the city and its cultural, economic and leisure potential. The program includes different scientific areas in the context of water, where non-formal teaching and experimentation activities are promoted, accompanied by researchers and monitors, in classical chemistry, microbiology, heavy metals and all the possibilities of scientific research linked to thermal water. By attending the Aqua Summer School, free time is used in a didactic and fun way – while getting to know a new city and new friends, the participant occupies their free time with an enriching experience, both in scientific and human terms, and may discover their future vocation.

Ciência Viva no Laboratório

The “Ciência Viva no Laboratório – Ocupação Científica de Jovens nas Férias” programme, financially supported by the Ciência Viva Agency, aims to provide secondary school students with an opportunity to get closer to the reality of scientific and technological research.

The internships promoted by Ciência Viva no Laboratório take place in a scientific research environment, in the R&D centers of the Bragança Polytechnic University, with activities as close as possible to scientific research, with clear language, content and information aimed at the age of the participants.

Verão Ciência

Summer Internships at the Bragança Polytechnic University, the aim of which is to provide technical and vocational education students, students of Portuguese descent and foreign secondary and technical and vocational education students with an opportunity to get closer to the reality of technology-based and vocational research activity in Portugal. Secondary school students with an interest in technology, applications and “hands on” can also apply for these internships. We offer the opportunity to attend one of the internships in various technical and professional areas:
    • Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Design;
    • Engineering;
    • Management and Accounting;
    • Humanities, Secretariat and Languages;
    • Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science;
    • Agricultural, Food and Environmental Technologies;
    • Health and Sports Technologies.

Open Day

The activities take place in two periods (morning and afternoon). However, we ask that you book the set of activities you want to do, reserving the right to make any adjustments we consider necessary for the best development of the routes.

Lunch can be booked in the canteen of our Social Welfare Services and is offered by UPB, so if you wish to have lunch, you should indicate this option when registering.

Plants Fascination Day

Promoted by the European Plant Science Organization (EPSO), the aim is to awaken as many people as possible around the world to the fascination of plants and the importance of studying them to improve agriculture and sustainable food production, as well as horticulture, forestry and the production of non-food goods such as paper, wood, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and energy. The decisive role of plants in environmental conservation will also be highlighted. The UPB is promoting the distribution of plants by students from different levels of education and the general population (produced in the ESA greenhouses), in public places in the city of Bragança and Mirandela, at the same time as awareness-raising and recreational activities (games, paintings, music).

Masterclasses

The Particle Physics Masterclasses are an activity organized by the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (lip.pt/masterclasses) in collaboration with the participating Institutes and Universities, aimed at secondary school students and intended to raise awareness of the field of particle physics. This is an international activity – physicsmasterclasses.org – under the IPPOG – International Particle Physics Outreach Group. Students go to institutes and universities “To be a scientist for a day… Hands on Particles!” at around 200 locations in 60 countries. The intense program allows young people to get to know the typical cycle of a scientist’s activity: learning, experimenting, discussing and presenting results (and at the end, self-assessment).

Science Events

UPB organizes several events with the aim of publicizing the institution, its educational offer and its science activities. By opening its doors, the UPB facilitates contact with the reality of Higher Education and Applied Research, offering various activities for different audiences, from demonstrations to visits to laboratories and experimental activities. Here are some of our science events.
