CIÊNCIAVITAE is the national science curriculum management system and is a central element in the ecosystem for managing information on scientific and technological activity, as well as a tool to support the modernization of administrative processes supported by a CV.
As part of the concept of scientific citizenship (Ciência ID), CIÊNCIAVITAE has emerged as a privileged space for the relationship between citizens and science, reflected in the format of an integrated and personalized repository of the journey through science.
CIÊNCIAVITAE brings together on a single platform the information currently scattered across multiple platforms, in a simple, harmonized and structured way, respecting the specificities of the scientific areas and establishing the principles of freedom and responsibility in the management and presentation of the curriculum.
This platform uses mechanisms for importing and automatically filling in curricular data, ensuring the principle of reusing information (enter once, reuse multiple times), in direct coordination with Ciência ID. The development of the platform respects best practices and international standards, and can be integrated with various national and international systems and identifiers.
CIÊNCIAVITAE is developed and managed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and is aimed at all those, Portuguese or foreign, who work in the academic and research context in Portugal.

The European Charter for Researchers is a set of general principles and requirements that specifies the roles, responsibilities and rights of researchers, as well as employers and/or funders of researchers. The aim of the Charter is to ensure that the nature of the relationship between researchers and employers or funders is conducive to successful performance in the generation, transfer, sharing and dissemination of knowledge and technological development, and to the career development of researchers.
The Charter also recognizes the value of all forms of mobility as a mean of encouraging the professional development of researchers. In this sense, the Charter constitutes a framework for researchers, employers and funders that invites them to act responsibly and professionally in their working environment and to recognize themselves as such.
This Charter is addressed to all researchers in the European Union at all stages of their career and covers all fields of research in the public and private sectors, regardless of the nature of the appointment or employment, the legal status of their employer or the type of organization or establishment where the work is carried out. It takes into account the multiple roles of researchers, who are called upon not only to carry out research work and/or development activities, but are also involved in supervisory, guidance, management or administrative tasks.
Regarding the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, this is made up of a set of principles that guarantee respect for values such as transparency in recruitment and fair treatment of all candidates, among others, “in particular with regard to the development of an attractive, open and sustainable European labor market for researchers, complementing those enshrined in the European Charter for Researchers”.
UPB and all those who make up UPB’s research ecosystem (research centers and units, associated laboratories, collaborative laboratories and research groups) have adhered to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers. The processes for hiring research staff follow the recommendations set out in the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The UPB has accumulated a remarkable scientific capital, which allows it to affirm an intense scientific research activity, clearly linked to the institution and the region, but at the same time with considerable international impact. This is leveraged by the creation and promotion of research careers at the UPB.
UPB has active policies for recruiting and retaining human resources dedicated to scientific activity. These professionals are part of specific careers and contribute to applied research with regional, national and international impact.
Scientific employment at the UPB corresponds to several hundred people in its various categories (research fellows, researchers hired under Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of August 29, in its current wording, and career researchers).
All applicable legislation and regulations are available in the About UPB > Legislation and Documents menu.
